Week 4
Research
During this week I have started shooting some ideas. I wanted this week to be focused on strictly b roll. It is very important to gather the b roll I can in real time. This week will be focused on how Taylor interacts with friends/teammates. It will show her having to do different things to cater to her health. I want to make sure to include the sacrifices she has to make in order to play this sport she loves.
Taylor has a large group of friends. Her teammates are actually the friends she is around the most. She will demonstrate her generosity and her goofy side as she travels to an away softball tournament. Being a student athlete, this 6 hour bus ride will be filled with laughs and homework. She will show how determined she is to be successful by trading out a bus nap for a study session.
I am looking into where I would want to shoot her interview after collecting some b roll. I checked out a camera to track her life of softball but the interview will be in a room. I want this interview to be like a 2020 episode. Where the spotlight is on strictly the interviewee. I think it is important to set a tone and vibe for a shoot. I plan on making this like a blurred background and strict focus on the interviewee.
Feedback
I shared my ideas with my professor. He made me realize different aspects of my shoot. One main focus in our conversation was lighting. I wanted to be an emphasis on lighting because that will make my shoot. He made me aware that a soft box would help me reach my goal. Where the lighting is on one side and I should use two cameras to capture different angles. Another idea he gave me was to use the studio. If I were to use the studio I will be able to take advantage of all the resources and be able to make the shoot how I want. I took in that feed back and am pretty sure I am going to use that method.
Reflection
This week I made leaps and bounds on my ideas. I am very pleased with the research and information I gathered. I now am waiting on next week so I can pitch my idea and start really shooting. This week is dedicated to b roll so that I can start editing on the footage I capture. I am very excited to share this film. Ive always wanted to make something that could reach wide age group audience. Athlete or not, this film will be able to open your eyes and make you aware that no struggle is too big to overcome. I am ready to get the ball rolling, because this story will be exciting to hear.
