Week Two
Reaching out to potiental interviewees
Research
I have decided to offically share the life story of VSU Athlete, Taylor Macera. Her story will be impactful to a mass majority of people. This would not only touch young kids and teenagers, but adults as well. This particular film will touch all athletes especially. As Taylor is a Senior at Valodsta State where she plays softball. After deciding this particular documentary, I decided to research on different streaming platforms. Casey Anthony, FYRE, Justin Bieber Never Say Never, are the three documentarys that I studied this week. I wanted to understand how to set up one location that I have picked out, so I went out there to see the best times to go.
Production:
A picture of Taylor Macera with a VSU cheerleading unifrom.
Taylor Macera as a Valdosta State softball player.
I want to collect all her childhood and present videos. These are two that will be in the documentary. To share her growth and her connection with Valdosta State. As a child she was able to experince what it is like to be a Blazer and she still feels a great connection to the program.
Feedback:
After sharing with my subject my idea about her documentary, she explained how being sure to highlight her good days. She doesn’t want this to be a sad story but just something to motivate and encourage everyone. I also spoke with my professor and he shared to make sure I started planning on how I was going to shoot this. He wanted me to see how would I cover her story in the alloted time, and being sure it was done correctly.
Reflection:
My purpose of doing this project to spread awareness. I feel like you always see documentaries on dark subjects. I want to be able to spread encouragement. People often get stuck in dark films and don’t know that some documenary subjects can shed light on your life. This is just to push people to keep going despite the curve balls life throws at you. During this process, I learned that it’s best to start working early than late. My biggest challenge would be time. That’s with any project though. I just have to understand to set appointments, gather crews, and start planning shooting dates.
