The Startup – Week 1
This week we were given the instructions on what to do for our project. Automatically my mind went towards creating a video in which I can incorporate my favorite style of video – video essay. I always wanted to complete one but the amount of hard work it takes to conduct all of the research, record all of the b-roll, interview people, and create a voiceover entertaining enough to keep an audience attached to the story is what turned me off from doing the project. When thinking about the guidelines of the project, I realized that I would need to show my technical skills of production in order to receive the appropriate points. However, video essays are really heavy on stock footage and graphics so I will need to find a way to put a spin on the concept.
When going down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos, I stumbled upon a genre that I really liked, video essay style videos. There were so many video essays about many different topics and I was so fascinated on the details of their research and how each Youtuber was able to make it fun and enjoyable to watch. This is how I knew that this was the type of video I wanted to create. The problem was, I didn’t know what topic I wanted to talk about.
