QEP Reflection

The difference between learning about production processes and actually carrying them out yourself are two very different things. Luckily, within the VSU program, I’ve gotten to do more of the doing part of the equation, as every production class has involved more production of content as opposed to note taking or explanations of what normally happens. This capstone class was a culmination of all that. The entire process was at my fingertips, and I found that to be a very good teaching experience. Through doing all the tasks required of someone producing a movie/TV show, I was able to learn what kind of things I excel at, and what kinds of roles I should maybe avoid in my professional life. For example, I learned that anything preproduction is not my strong suit. I tend to develop my ideas as I go along, as opposed to being able to plan everything out ahead of time and put it all on paper. So, going into the movie industry and being a director or producer may not be the best role for me. But I found that I loved interviewing people and getting to learn about their life stories. Plus, you come across so many different personalities and types of people, you have to take different strategies to get the types of answers you’re looking for out of the different people.
