production techniques reflection – directing
I’ve said many times that directing is not something I had ever done. It was not something I was comfortable doing but it was the role that was placed on me as soon as I started this film. Seeing as it was my script and it was my vision and idea, it only makes sense for me to be the director. I didn’t feel comfortable at first because it’s such a big role, it’s one that requires you to be a little assertive and from the very start, it was something that was difficult for me to do. Even emailing to get actors required some sort of confidence and assertiveness that I did not feel I had. Asking people to audition for me, I felt silly and felt like it wasn’t my place to do that, but it was. In this moment, for this class, for this project, it was my place because it was my work. Our first few shoots, I found it hard to tell them to redo scenes or state what I didn’t like. Eventually, I did get the hang of it and I felt more comfortable telling them stuff like that.
