We recorded witha a boom mic and sometimes lav mics as well. It really depends on a myriad of things, which will sound better. Sometimes the boom sounds better, sometimes the lav mic sounds better. It can depend on the room your in, what is the surround sound like. I will say more often than the lav mics, we were using the boom mic. Oh and some people may prefer the lav mic to the boom mic, which I understand. I understand it both ways but what we can all agree on is that the camera mic is never good. It needs to be put through audition and just go through the wire to make camera audio sound good. The background noise is always loud and it just sounds bad. Meanwhile, boom and lavs always sound smooth and clear and crisp. Which is the way you want.
